Many people have a wrong idea of what constitutes
true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification,
but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.
one of the most important paths to inner peace is to find our soul’s
purpose. Until we have one, we feel a sense of incompleteness, as if
something is missing from our lives. This may be so subtle it is barely felt
at a conscious level. There might be an inner unrest, a longing for something
Each of us finds our own purpose in our own way. Some of us find it
through pain and tragedy, for example, in recovering from addiction and
then helping others do the same. Some of us find our purpose through
prayer and meditation. Some are called into a religious order. Still others
know what to do because they have a special skill or talent. Sometimes
our purpose changes. What was true for twenty years can unexpectedly
be transformed into a new path today.
It is in the development of an inner life that we can find our purpose.
It is in silence, prayer, meditation, and being close to nature. It is in listening
to and trusting our intuition, our inner voice, that we come to know what our
next step is to help others, even if it is only one other person.
I am taking time today to go to my still,
quiet place within and listen for guidance.
